Some more information about IPEN and the Student Peace Prize follows:
Iniciativa Puentes por los Estudiantes de Nicaragua (IPEN) is an ideal organization based in Costa Rica, started by students from Nicaragua. Since 2022 the organization has worked for the right of education and academic freedom in their home country. IPEN emerged after massive demonstrations in Nicaragua in 2018, that were met with violent reactions from the government. Today IPEN offers education opportunities for Nicaraguan students that have been affected by the political situation in the country, as well as humanitarian and psychological help, and leadership training.
IPEN is awarded the Student Peace Prize 2025 for their work in protecting Nicaraguan students that have been met with persecution and oppression. The prize is awarded on behalf of all Norwegian students and is a collaboration between The International Student Festival in Trondheim (SFiT), The Norwegian Students' and academics' International Assistance Fund (SAIH) and The National Union of Students in Norway (NSO).
"Our vision is sound-clear for us, but it can be difficult to explain for others. We’re not working only for pencils and blackboards, but as a tool for the change we want in the country. Education and academic freedom is a solution for freedom"
M. Moralez og E. Rivera, 2024
